March 2025 Update
We continue to make steady progress with our DA and are pleased to provide another update to our valued members regarding the proposed redevelopment of the Forestville RSL Club.
Development Application (DA) Update
The Club’s Redevelopment Team has held continued, productive discussions with the Northern Beaches Council as we fine-tune our DA. The Club and Council staff will soon meet with the Sydney North Planning Panel (the DA approval authority) where the progress of the DA will be assessed. Any further design refinements coming from this meeting will be introduced as we approach the final phase of the DA approval process.
An Introduction to Retirement Living Communities Information Session
We have been receiving a number of questions from members and the community who are interested in further understanding how retirement villages work.
As a result, we are going to be running an Introduction to Retirement Living Communities Information Session for anyone interested in learning how retirement communities work and finding out more about how they are different to strata developments and other options available. This will be held at the Club on 14th May at 11am. If you would like to attend, please click here.
Notice of Annual General Meeting and Redevelopment Information Session
The Forestville RSL Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held at the Club on 28th April at 7.00 pm. Similar to last year, the AGM will be followed by a Members Redevelopment Update where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the redevelopment.
Redevelopment FAQs Updates
To ensure we continue to keep our members properly informed with accurate and up to date information we will be periodically updating the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Fact Sheet and uploading this resource onto the Heart of Forestville website for our members and the community to access.
The Board made a decision recently regarding whether members of the Board will be able to buy independent living units. To avoid any perception of a conflict of interest, it was decided that senior staff members or club members who have been a Director of the Club Ltd. since the commencement of the process to build ILUs (2021) on the site of the Forestville RSL Club, will not be able to purchase an ILU until all units have been sold and at least one has been resold. For the avoidance of doubt, that is, all units must be sold on the “first selldown” before any director, former director or management can purchase an ILU. Importantly, under our proposed village model ILU owners must occupy their unit. That is, you will not be allowed to purchase an ILU and then rent it out to a third party.
Finally, information regarding the proposed location of the Cenotaph has been further updated. The club is strategically aligned with the sub-Branch, the Custodians of this revered site, on this initiative as they work together on the relocation. This information has been updated in the (FAQ) Fact Sheet.
Copy Correction
Recently we were made aware of an unintentional copy error that was published in a heartofforestville.com.au post and the ‘Redevelopment Frequently Asked Questions Fact Sheet’ that was shared with members on 13 February 2025.
The error related to the use of the word “directive” as it relates to the proposed relocation of the Cenotaph. We unreservedly apologise to all members for this error. The text has now been corrected in both information sources.
We continue to work very closely and harmoniously with the ultimate Custodians of the Cenotaph, our Forestville RSL sub-Branch, regarding the relocation of the Cenotaph as a part of the proposed redevelopment.
As always, we encourage our members and the local community to contact us with any questions via www.heartofforestville.com.au .
We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress in the coming months and years ahead.
Regards,
Tony Mooney, President and Ian Thomson, CEO
