Our Heritage
Humble Beginnings
On the 29 March 1954, 13 local community members and prospective members attended the first recorded meeting of the Forestville RSL sub-Branch.
By May that same year charter was granted, and 29 returned servicemen met at the foundation General Meeting held at the Soldiers Memorial Hall in Starkey Street Forestville. It was the humble beginning of a honourable local organisation committed to support the well-being of serving and affiliate members, their families and the families members who had passed away.
A few years after it’s inception on July 3rd, 1957 the Forestville RSL Sub-branch acquired a lease of 2½ acres of land, cleared of scrub – to form a Club where members of the Sub-branch, their family, friends and members of the greater community could meet together.
Community Connection
Continuing today and for over 66 years the Forestville RSL Club has taken pride in serving the community and creating a warm and inviting community hub for locals and visitors alike.
The importance of the Clubs heritage continues to be honoured daily as it flourishes with longstanding and modern members at the forefront and the everyday philosophy, "From Our Family to Yours Since 1959".
The Forestville RSL Sub-branches ongoing commitment includes championing interaction with the general community in the area through our promotion of Australia’s military heritage at significant commemorations such as the Anzac Sunday March, the Anzac Dawn Service and the Remembrance Day Service. We also actively interact with the schools in the area through the sponsorship of the Australia My Country (AMC) competition and their Remembrance Day Education Grants Program.
Forestville RSL Club facilities include a popular Bistro offering delicious meals and a welcoming environment to celebrate special occasions and social catch ups. There is also live entertainment and a great range of indoor and outdoor spaces for locals and visitors to enjoy.
